Study how to improvise in popular music. These practical sessions are for players of any instrument. Get to grips with improvisation in this exploration of common scales and approaches to improv in pop, rock, blues, folk and jazz. We’ll look at blues scales, pentatonics, extension notes and more to help you get the most out of your improvisation.

Meet the jazz idiom as you explore time feels and harmonic progressions at your piano. For pianists at grade 5 and above, with some knowledge of chord structures (triads and 7ths), this session in our pianos room will give food for thought and practice.

What is opera? And how do you approach watching and listening to it? Explore the ostentatious, sometimes overwhelming, world of opera through study of two major works and styles.

Continue your singing journey and explore your voice in the second year of our training programme. These classes will further develop your singing voice and musicianship skills through a selection of technical exercises and songs from a variety of genres to suit all musical tastes. This third year of our piano programme begins with repertoire of a grade 1 standard. Improve your technique, fluency of reading and playing, and exploring more complex rhythm patterns.

For pianists with around three years' experience. Improve your finger technique, coordination, phrasing, music



reading, and your confidence.

If you have pop piano training or equivalent keyboard harmony skill, come and tackle the easier end of the jazz piano repertoire. Our focus is the study of jazz harmony and voicing, interpretation of a lead sheet and good timing. To benefit from this course you need to play piano at grade 5 or above and be fluent playing major and minor scales.
