What is the course about?

ITEC Level 3 Certificate in Lymphatic Drainage. You will learn about Lymphatic Drainage massage and the underlying related anatomy and physiology. This course provides a progressive learning structure which will provide students, who already have the ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma, or an equivalent qualification, with a unique added skill.

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO FILL OUT AN ONLINE APPLICATION FORM FOR THIS COURSE
Applications will be assessed and successful candidates will be offered a place.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- You should be aware that a minimum of 80% attendance is necessary to complete the course.
- You are also expected to participate to the best of your ability

- Due to the nature of this course, you will not be entitled to transfer to a different course after the course has started.

- Anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic and transport systems in the body
- Connective tissue, substance transport, contra-indications and treatment guidelines
- Common diseases and disorders of the lymphatic system
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage techniques

- Prepare and provide for a lymphatic massage treatment using classical lymphatic drainage movements
- Apply and understand Reflectice practice for Lymphatic Drainage massage.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

ITEC Level 3 Certificate

You would have completed all units from the syllabus of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in massage (or equivalent) to have covered the following:
- Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies
- Principles and Practice of Complementary Therapies
- Business Practice for Complementary Therapies

You will also need to have sufficient literacy, numeracy and ICT skills to include:

Reading:
Use different texts to obtain and summarise information
Detect opinion, meaning and bias in writing and respond to points made within a text

Writing:
Use different styles format and structure, formal and informal for different purposes or audiences
Write complex sentences with few errors

Speaking and Listening:
Listen to information and respond appropriately
Present information clearly and persuasively
Adapt verbal contributions to suit the audience and situation
Make significant contributions in discussions

Numeracy:
Recognise 2D and 3D objects
Extract information from lists, tables, and diagrams, graphs and charts

ICT (Information & communication technology):
-Using ICT systems – Windows, Microsoft Office
-Finding, selecting and exchanging information – (web, email)
-Working with word processing.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course content will be both theoretical and practical.

Teaching methods used will include:
- Lectures
- Discussions
- Group work
- Demonstrations
- Practical sessions
- Pair work

YOU WILL REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 3 - 5 HOURS WORK EACH WEEK OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME
- You will need to find clients to undertake case studies outside of the class time.
- It is essential that you have access to a massage couch outside of class.
- You will need to also have access to a computer and the internet in order to research project work.
(facilities are available at City Lit)

This is a professional practitioner course including business elements. The use of ICT (Information & Communication Technology) skills is also required.

ALL ASSIGNMENTS, CASE STUDIES AND TREATMENT EVIDENCE FORMS MUST BE WORD PROCESSED.

City Lit is committed to the delivery of functional skills, the supported learning centre has various resources for students without access to computers or the internet. Support in using these facilities is also available.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You must wear a professional uniform for the practical elements and exams of all ITEC courses - uniforms must be black (top and trousers and black closed toe shoes).

OTHER ITEMS
- The collage will provide all resources and materials during the course (Towels, couch cover, mediums, wipes, gels etc)
- you will be required to bring some writing materials (note paper, pens, pencils, etc.)

COURSE BOOKS - tutor will provide recommended reading on commencement of course

The exam fee is included in the course cost. This fee is non-refundable and the exams must be taken on the date set by the Institute.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

After completing this course you may wish to study another professional complementary therapy such as ITEC Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Sports Massage, Traditional Thai Massage or On-site Massage.

Janet Whitehead

Jan has been a practising therapist for over fifteen years, and a tutor for ten years. She practises nutrition, holistic massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian head massage, Thai yoga massage, Japanese facial rejuvenation and pregnancy massage. She currently teaches massage, reflexology, manual lymphatic drainage, facials, stone therapy, nutrition, and anatomy and physiology courses at City Lit and other London colleges. Jan is passionate about health and wellbeing. In her spare time, she enjoys increasing her holistic knowledge, cooking, playing tennis, travelling and theatre.
