Dutch is spoken by approximately 23 million people as a first language and is an official language in The Netherlands, Belgium, Suriname and some of the Caribbean islands such as Aruba and Sint Maarten. Dutch is closely related to English with words such as 'water', 'coleslaw' and 'cruise' said to have Dutch origins.
