What is the course about?
Working from your own drawings, photographs or found images, you will be guided through use of washes and mark-making methods to develop a landscape painting in watercolour.
What will we cover?
The course will introduce techniques particular to landscape painting, focusing on how to create contrasts of light/shade and colour effectively; and ways to create appropriate space/ distance in a composition.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Create a watercolour composition from sketches/ photos/ found images
- Apply appropriate techniques such as masking-out, mark-making to develop a painting
- Start to use layering methods for tonal and colour contrast
- Start to develop and explore effects appropriate for your image.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
For beginners to landscape painting in watercolour as well as those wanting to develop their existing skills.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Studio-based, through practical tasks, demonstrations, regular individual feedback from tutor, and some group / pair discussion, as appropriate; plus optional homework to develop the project.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
The course fee includes most materials. Extra watercolour paper may be purchased from the tutor at cost.
