What is the course about?

This one is a must for life and portrait painters who wish to acquire or refresh their skills. Learn practical approaches to colour mixing in acrylic and oil paint to create a range of skin tones.

What will we cover?

We will cover colour mixing to match different types of skin tones. Working from
observation, we will explore how to develop a palette of warm and cool colours working from a live model.
Looking at artist images to learn from their particular colour palettes.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Select a palette of colours appropriate to use
Use warm and cool colours to create form
Work from two shades to analyse colour mixes
Use brush marks to convey form and texture
Work with paint layers to extend depth of colour.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Some experience of portraiture/life painting would be useful but open to all levels.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Practical demonstrations, handouts, individual support and group discussion, practical projects.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All materials provided. A notebook would be useful to write down colour mixing combinations etc.
