Radio and podcast presenting: improvers (online)
Extend and develop your skills for a range of podcasts and radio broadcasts, presenting and putting a live news, current affairs, features and music programme to air, creating the content yourselves. The course is the second of three that allows students to progress from complete beginner to an advanced level with the aim of being able to present and pitch programme ideas professionally. You'll need to have taken the beginners’ course or have previous industry experience. This course will be online and supported by a media technician.

What is the course about?
Honing your skillset as an all-round podcaster and broadcaster. Extend and develop your skills for a range of radio broadcasts, putting a live news, current affairs, features and music programme to air, creating the content yourselves. You'll need to have taken the beginners’ presenting course or have previous industry experience.
This course is online and supported by a media technician. Students will work with both a tutor-editor and technician as in the broadcast profession. The course is the second of three that allows students to progress from complete beginner to an advanced level with the aim of being able to present and pitch programme ideas professionally.
What will we cover?
Writing for, reading and talking on air. Producing features and improving interview skills whether with celebs, politicians or vox pops in the street. Working up a radio pitch into a feature or programme, allowing the student to develop a specific on-air interest or subject, such as human interest stories, health, arts and culture, travel.

Have a wider and deeper understanding of working as a podcaster and broadcaster either within the industry or for personal interest and general confidence.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
It is suitable for anyone who has completed Radio Presenting: Beginners at City Lit or has at least some previous experience such as working on a student or hospital radio station or in an internship or has been interviewed on air or similar. Students with some other relevant experience like working on a community magazine or paper or in PR could also take the course. Other students should check with the tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Class tutorials and discussions, interviews. The course is taught online, supported by a media technician, via live interactive sessions on Zoom, supported by a Google Classroom. For more information, see Online Learning at City Lit.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
No. Recorded material MAY be made available via Google Classroom at the end of the course in accordance with our privacy policies and data protection regulations.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Dr Allis Moss is a freelance journalist and broadcaster. Allis has worked for a number of channels and publications including Radio 1,2,3,4, 5, Five Live and World Service. She has contributed to flagship programmes like Radio 4's 'From Our Own Correspondent', BBC World TV news, The New European, The Independent, Time Out Paris, and was a UK correspondent for Radio France and Radio Netherlands Worldwide. On historical themes, Allis has appeared on Radio 3's 'Free Thinking' and written-presented World Service's 'Witness' and 'Heart and Soul'. Allis also had her own weekly column in her local paper and has been spotted on centre court at Wimbledon tennis (standing still at the mic!) as announcer-blogger for the world-famous championships. She completed her history PhD as a White Rose Scholar for Leeds University and gained distinction as a postgraduate in Historical Studies at Oxford University. Allis is the author of the local history book ‘The Jigsaw Journey’ supported by an Arts-in-Action award telling the stories of a West Sussex town. Allis was also a writer-announcer for BBC1 for three years and taught at the Global Institute, London Met and Southampton Solent universities.
