In this second module you will expand your vocabulary and continue to learn the grammar forms, starting to read prose passages appropriate to the level.

What is the course about?

In this course you will expand your vocabulary to approximately 175 words, learn complex grammatical forms and independently read prose stories from the Epics – set texts for IGCSE Sanskrit Option a.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Thematic and athematic verb conjugation & verbal classes; the imperfect and future tense; middle voice; introduction to participles; introduction to Sanskrit compounds.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Construct and read intermediate level sentences in the present, past and future tense; construct and read sentences using participles in place of verbs; identify at least 2 types of Sanskrit compounds; gerunds, gerundives.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed Level 2 Module 1 at City Lit (or an equivalent qualification) to enrol for this module.As the course is taught in English, please read the outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support with your English skills to help you take part fully in this class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Classroom contact with interactions in both Sanskrit and English. To fully benefit from the course, you should be prepared to commit at least 2 hours to homework.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Books 1 & 2 developed by St. James School for the IGCSE Sanskrit exam are recommended. These are free to
download from the IGCSE Sanskrit exam site.

Rohini Bakshi

Rohini Bakshi has an M.A in Hindu Studies from SOAS, University of London. She teaches Sanskrit, Hindi, Vedic Chanting, and introductory courses on the Upanishads, Patanjali's yoga sutras, and the Bhagavad Gita. Oxford alumna, columnist and blogger, Rohini has been teaching Sanskrit on social media for years and has published an independent reader for Sanskrit students based on this work. She is currently teaching Katha Upanishad at the advanced level.
