What is the course about?

To consolidate Spanish grammatical structures and vocabulary, and to broaden students' knowledge of Spanish and Latin American cultures.

What will we cover?

Discussion of different topics: cities and places education, leisure, environment, Spanish/Latin American cultures.
Grammar: Revision of different tenses (indicative and subjunctive), impersonal and passive clauses, relative phrases.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- describe and ask about a city in detail
- express preconceived ideas or expectation
- talk about education
- be more confident in speaking and understanding Spanish
- express opinions and ideas by using a wider range of vocabulary
- understand complex grammar structures
- extract specific information when listening to dialogues
- extract detailed information from newspaper articles.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have completed 4/5 years of Spanish or have a B2.1 level.

It is also essential that you have knowledge of more complex grammar terminology such as: conditional, indirect and direct pronouns, hypothetical sentences, subjunctive, subordinate clauses and more complex conjunctions.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

LS422 or LS401 Spanish 4: module 2, and cultural workshops in Term 2. Please enrol on the next module as soon as possible as spaces cannot be guaranteed.

Amaia Ibargüen

Amaia is a Spanish teacher from the Basque country in Spain. She grew up in Mondragón and studied in San Sebastián and Bilbao where she completed a teaching degree at university. She has always been interested in teaching and, as well as her work in adult education, she has experience teaching at universities and companies. Amaia has Qualified Teacher Status in England and has taught Spanish at all levels. She has a keen interest in exploring those areas of the language that her students find difficult. She takes great pleasure in seeing how her students progress in the language, in their motivation and dedication, and in the dialogue that takes place among adults in the context of the classroom.
