Starting in September 2023, our one-year, intensive Access to Higher Education Diploma online course will allow you to gain the equivalent of 3 A-Levels in Literature, History and Sociology. Upon completing this course, our students typically apply for degrees in the core subjects or related disciplines such as Anthropology, Education, Philosophy, Politics and sometimes Languages at some of the top universities in the UK.

This is one of the only evening and distance learning Access To Higher Education courses in the UK. Teaching takes place online every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 — 9.15pm from September to June.

This course is free for learners aged 19-23, who meet the residency criteria and who have not previously achieved a full level 3 qualification.

This is a Level 3 course designed for those who would like to study for a degree and left school without the usual qualifications.

In order to join the Access to HE Diplima in Humanities and Sciences at City Lit, you must:

  1. Gain a English or Maths GCSE (or Level 2 equivalents)* Please note that most universities require these qualifications to process your university application.
  2. Complete and pass our online application form, including the submission of extended written answers.
  3. Pass an interview to make sure you are suitable to study in this program. It is likely that this interview will be done online.
  4. Passing a written assessment aimed at assessing your ability to write in an unprepared environment.
  5. Attend the course induction which usually takes place during the evening 1 week before the course begins.
  6. Demostrate a very clear understanding of why you are studying this course and what you want to achieve at the end of it. We prioritise applications from those who demonstrate an in-depth understanding of how this course will not only impact your academic skills, but your wider priorities.

Mandatory attendance requirement

When you become a student on this course, you must achieve 100% attendance over the first five weeks of the course and maintaine attendance above 90% throughout the year. You may be removed from the course if you do not adhere to this requirement.

 

*We accept applications from those who are able to demonstrate this at assessment, but do not hold formal qualifications.

The course costs £3,022 (we require an up-front, non-refundable payment of £199 upon enrolment, with your balance eligible to be paid off by the Advanced Learner Loan). For more information and to check your eligibility, please contact City Lit student services before you apply.

The Advanced Learner Loan is written off if you go on to successfully complete your degree course and you will not be required to pay anything back.

    The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Humanities and Social Science) is a qualification designed for anyone who has left school without the usual qualifications (GCSEs or A-levels) and wishes to study at university.







    It is a highly intensive, fast-track route to higher education, where you will complete the equivalent of 3 A-Levels in one year, and requires attendance ONLINE via ZOOM two nights per week (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 6-9.15pm, as well as online tutorials every two to three weeks (from 5pm) and substantial private study. These dates and times are non-negotiable and you are required to attend every session. There may also be optional study sessions at our Central London Campus on one Saturday each term.







    Due to the course's intensity, priority will be given to applications from those who are serious and sure about progressing to degree level study and are ready to take on the intense challenge that the year will bring.



    This course is free for learners aged 19-23, who meet the residency criteria and who have not previously achieved a full level 3 qualification.



    The course fee is £2823, plus an upfront fee of £199 payable at the time of your enrolment.



    If you are unable to pay the course fee upfront, you can choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to help cover the cost.
