  1. Lipreading and managing hearing loss: improvers

    Develop your lipreading skills and strategies for face-to-face communication and keep up-to-date with relevant equipment and services. This course is suitable if you have completed a beginners class or attended lipreading class at improvers' level.

  2. Lipreading 1:1 coaching
    Course start date:  Mon 16 Sep 2024

    Location on this date:  Blended (learn both online and in-person)

    Individually tailored 1-1 lipreading coaching sessions. These can be taught at any level. Sessions normally last one hour. Timing and day can be flexible dependant on tutor availability. Fee of £59 is for one hour's tuition.







    This course can be delivered face-to-face or online by arrangement with the lipreading department.

    Develop your lipreading and fingerspelling skills and build your confidence in understanding conversations. Suitable if you are new to lipreading, or if you have already completed the 6 or 8 week Introduction to Lipreading course at City Lit.

    Have you always wanted to learn British Sign Language and communicate with Deaf people? Develop the skills you need to gain the level 1 BSL qualification, accredited by Signature. The fees for BSL level 1 courses include a year's subscription to Signworld.







    You may wish to study BSL without the pressure of an exam, or just for fun. We can arrange for you to be taught without a formal final assessment and you will receive a certificate of attendance.

    This course is for Deaf people who already use sign language in their everyday lives.







    It will help you to develop confidence, and is a chance to practise everyday BSL at beginner and intermediate level. You will build on and expand your skills ready for the next level of BSL. This is not a course with an exam but you will receive a certificate of attendance if you attend 80% of the course.

    This course will help you learn how to measure. You will learn measurements like length, mass, weight, volume, time and temperature. We will practice measuring in the classroom. This means you can use these skills in everyday life.
