What is the course about?

Develop your ukulele technique, explore chord theory, song structure, and learn how to apply these to your playing.

What will we cover?

You will learn new techniques on the ukulele, and new songs, chord theory and split strokes. Perhaps we can persuade you to perform together at the end of the course?

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- play new chord patterns
- improve your picking and strumming technique
- apply this knowledge to tunes we will learn on the course, and further tunes of your choice.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for students who have some experience of playing ukulele. Ideal for graduates of the ukulele 1 course.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The tutor will give practical demonstrations of the technique taught in each session. You will learn and play in a group lesson and the tutor will give advice and feedback to individuals and to the group. You will need to practise your songs at home.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring your own ukulele, any type welcome although your tutor will appreciate forewarning of unusuals. All course materials will be supplied for class and available in the google classroom.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Graduate to ukulele 3 or an intermediate level course.

Jake Rodrigues

Jake is a multi-instrumentalist whose work for several years has had a strong leaning towards the community and social aspects of music. His songwriting and performing builds bridges between ages and demographics, and his styles of presentation and performance attempt the same. Jake runs Froggy's Famous Fan Club (for pre-schoolers), The Cream of Tartar Show (a cabaret performance/workshop) and is his own One Man Band. He plays ukulele, harmonica, accordion, banjo, guitar, piano and percussion, sings, and writes many, many songs. innovation and re-invention have been the inspiration since the covid curse, and Jake has been exploring his unique musical take with live online shows and a collection of original songs. At City Lit Jake teaches ukulele and harmonica.
