What is the course about?

You will develop your ukulele technique and apply this to all of your playing. Enjoy learning and playing in a group.

What will we cover?

We will learn new playing techniques including finger-picking. We will expand our vocabulary of chord shapes. You will encouraged to sing the song as you play.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- play more challenging chord sequences
- play finger style ukulele
- learn new easy and challenging songs
- apply this knowledge to tunes of your choice.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for students who have some experience of playing ukulele, but consider themselves still novice.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The tutor will give practical demonstrations of the chosen song and techniques taught in each session. You will learn and play as a group, discuss the tasks and techniques, and the tutor can give individual guidance.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Jake Rodrigues

Jake is a multi-instrumentalist whose work for several years has had a strong leaning towards the community and social aspects of music. His songwriting and performing builds bridges between ages and demographics, and his styles of presentation and performance attempt the same. Jake runs Froggy's Famous Fan Club (for pre-schoolers), The Cream of Tartar Show (a cabaret performance/workshop) and is his own One Man Band. He plays ukulele, harmonica, accordion, banjo, guitar, piano and percussion, sings, and writes many, many songs. innovation and re-invention have been the inspiration since the covid curse, and Jake has been exploring his unique musical take with live online shows and a collection of original songs. At City Lit Jake teaches ukulele and harmonica.
