What is the course about?

On this course you will develop the basic skills of CSS needed to format a WordPress site. You will also learn how to use WordPress’ plugins to customise your website further utilising the free themes available. You will use a workflow that relies on the browser to customise and understand WordPress structure.

What will we cover?

• Using CSS to customise WordPress
• The Browser’s Developers tools
• WordPress post types
• Taxonomies in WordPress
• Customising menus in WordPress.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Stylise themes using CSS
• Utilise custom Post Type and taxonomies
• Use the Browsers dev tools for styling
• Make custom Post types
• Create taxonomies and modify custom post types
• Create Menus that incorporate custom post type.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is most suitable for students with some experience of WordPress, either having completed one of our introductory WordPress courses or already having a working WordPress website or blog.
You should have good computing skills and experience of using a web browser on a PC or Mac.
Students need to be able to access their email, be confident with accessing pictures and files on their computers and a competent user of both the internet and email. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is taught as a series of practical activities and lectures. There will be some optional work to be completed outside class to further your understanding of the topics covered.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no extra costs. Please bring your logins for an existing WordPress site you wish to use. If you do not have an existing site, please bring valid email login details to be used to create a new account with WordPress.You may choose to bring your own laptop if you prefer.
