What is the course about?
Learn how to use WordPress - The world's most popular Content Management System - to create and manage your own websites and blogs.
Note that this course covers similar topics to the City Lit course " Build a website in a day with WordPress."
Learners wishing to use WordPress primarily to blog and who wish to examine blogging in more detail may prefer the course "Blogging: build your own blog using WordPress.".
What will we cover?
What is WordPress?
• Using Wordpress.com and self-hosted sites
• Signing up for a free website or blog using WordPress.com
• Add, edit and delete web pages in your site
• Add, edit and delete blog "posts" to your site
• Add media content (pictures, video, audio) to your posts and pages
• Select a theme for your site and customise it with your own widgets and menus.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
• Create Wordpress websites and/or blogs
• Create new pages and posts in your websites or blogs
• Add multimedia content to posts and pages
• Use widgets to add extra content
• Create custom menus to guide users of your site.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is aimed at beginners. You should have basic keyboard and mouse skills and be able to use the internet. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written information and discuss work with the tutor.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught step by step through using demonstrations and presentations. Each student has access to a computer for practical work.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You will need an email account that you can access during the course to verify your Wordpress.com account.
