The City Lit School of Visual Arts is pleased to launch its new talk series In conversation with… Over the course of the year, we’ll welcome an established speaker from the world of Visual Arts to speak about a subject passionate to them.

In conversation with Dr. Helen Walsh

In this hour long talk Helen will speak about her work at York museums to establish the Centre of Contemporary Ceramics (CoCA) and the Contemporary Studio Ceramics Subject Specialist Network. She will then focus on her most recent project at CoCA curating the Wall of Women ceramic artists.

Henny Beaumont is an award winning political cartoonist, graphic novelist and creator of ‘Disappearing Women.’  Her graphic memoir 'Hole in the Heart' was selected in top ten novels about motherhood of all time by Mumsnet. In this hour long talk Henny will speak about her practice exploring and promoting inclusion in art.

Annie Cattrell is an interdisciplinary artist, and her practice is often informed by working with specialists in science and from particular geological locations. In this hour long talk Annie Cattrell will speak about making public art and her current project as the public artist for the state-of-the-art research facility being built for UCL neuroscience on Grays Inn Road.


In conversation with Dr. Robin Wilson

Dr Robin Wilson is an anthropiologist and printmaker with degrees in geology, geography and anthropology. In this hour long talk Dr Robin will speak about the Oxford Anagama collaborative research project. With a focus on contemporary praxis in traditional craft forms, and on perceptions of the environment mediated through material artefacts.


In conversation with Dr. Stephen Knott

Dr Stephen Knott is director of the Craft Study Centre. Stephen’s doctoral thesis on Amateur craft as a differential practice was carried out under the auspices of the V&A and the Royal College of Art and was supervised by Glenn Adamson (V&A) and Hans Stofer (RCA). In this hour long talk Stephen will speak about his current research project on Craft and free time.
