Too nervous to face Facebook? Is tweeting something birds do? Have you heard of Instagram but never used it? Then this is the course for you. Improve your digital communication in a supportive environment and learn the different ways you can connect to friends, family and the wider world.

This course is FREE if you are employed and earn less than £20,962. You need to have lived in the UK or EU for the last 3 years and be a citizen of the UK or a country within the EU. You may also be eligible for this funding in other circumstances. When you come for assessment or enrolment, bring a pay slip dated within 3 months of the course start date, or a current employment contract that shows your gross salary.

What is the course about?

This course will introduce you to the main elements of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in a safe and supportive environment. You will learn how to set up Facebook pages, profiles and group and what the differences are between them; how to post on Facebook, share stories and make connections. You will learn how to start your Twitter account, send tweets, gain followers and follow others, use hashtags. You will also be introduced to Instagram and how this differs from Facebook and Twitter including how to create a profile, upload photos, edit and share them, and make connections. For each app you will learn how to maintain your privacy when you want to and be confident you are not sharing more with the world than you want to.

What will we cover?

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a course for complete beginners on these apps. It will take you through the apps in a gradual step by step manner.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This will be a relaxed and supportive learning environment: step by step learning will help you become more skilled. You will have lots of opportunities to ask questions and address areas you need help in. It will be a practical hands-on course where you are able to experiment under the guidance of the tutor. An interactive whiteboard will help make demonstrations easy to understand.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Bring your own smartphone to class. Please also bring a folder, pens and paper. There are no additional costs.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Amber moved to London from Texas in 2001 to complete her MBA in International Marketing. As an Account Director for a student marketing agency, she was an early adopter in using social media in campaigns with high success. After the recession in 2009, she started teaching adults how to use social media to promote their business, often working with career changers who were switching gears after being made redundant to start their own businesses. Her approach is dynamic and engaging, vowing to make the scary world of social media accessible to everyone from the tech-savvy to the technophobe!
