Introduction to the DALF certificate

What is the course about?

To prepare students to sit the DALF C1 examination in June 2024. The course is designed to show students what the DALF examination is about and to assess whether students are at the right level. This is a demanding course, which requires a considerable amount of self study.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Reading, writing, discussion and analysis of texts on specific topics related to contemporary France and French-speaking countries. Practise complex grammatical points.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

write and speak accurately and confidently about specific topics/areas

have a very high level of expressive style and a greatly extended vocabulary

prepare for the DALF C1 with confidence.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have an A-level with a good grade (A/B) or hold the DELF B2 qualification or equivalent.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activites (e.g. using money, telling the time etc)

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Based on the tutor's own material. Students should bring a monolingual dictionnary to class.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

DALF C1 or a French course at equivalent level (French 5). Please ask tutor for advice. Please enrol as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
