What is the course about?

Learning gentle Pilates exercises and relaxation techniques that can me incorporated in everyday life. Developing your knowledge and practice of Pilates in an enjoyable and engaging environment. Learning to develop body awareness and improve core strength and posture through gentle movement. A variety of exercises are performed, flowing smoothly from one to the other whilst focusing on technique. Practicing breathing and relaxation techniques that leave you feeling refreshed. Variations are given for exercises to meet the needs of individual learners.

What will we cover?

Basic Pilates techniques and exercises.
Basic relaxation techniques, including breathing patterns.
Benefits of body awareness and mind/body connection.
Benefits of Pilates as an exercise technique that focuses on improving core strength.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Practise lateral breathing and other breathing techniques.
- Perform a series of Pilates exercises.
- Have a working knowledge of how to improve posture.
- Choose to work at an appropriate and effective level for each movement.
- Know how to use relaxation techniques to quieten the mind and improve mind body awareness
- Improved anatomical knowledge.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for all students.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Practical class work.
Following tutor demonstration.
Explanations including visualisation.
Some one-to-one guidance from the tutor.
Group work.
Techniques and exercises learnt can be taken into everyday life.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You should wear loose, comfortable clothing and socks.

Cathy Norris

Designed to stretch, move and relax you; Cathy's classes are fun and welcoming both to beginners and regulars. She passionately believes that everyone can benefit from exercise as it leads to positive mental and physical changes to everyday life. Cathy has over 15 years experience; holding qualifications in Pilates, Movement for Older People, and Yoga. Her clients include everyone from older adults and young professionals to those with specialist needs including arthritis, back pain and MS. Clients are welcome to vist her sessions - please come along and give it a go.
