What is the course about?

You will delve into and explore the fundamental tenets of the Meisner Technique and apply this to screen work. The focus of the work is on cultivating a sense of spontaneous improvisation in your behaviours towards other actors, working with imagination, acting from impulse, and developing intuitive performance skills. The Meisner exercises, will be a bridge into creating a meaningful and realistic performance on camera. Your scene will be filmed in our dedicated TV and radio studio, where we also cover some of the essential technical aspects of camera work such as eyelines, framing and hitting our marks.

Use the principles of the Meisner technique with confidence
Perform with greater nuance and authenticity in scene work
Improvise and respond to your fellow actors with confidence and agility
Perform with greater confidence in the technical world of screen
Create a meaningful screen performance.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

All are welcome.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught in a group setting and in pairs. Your tutor will teach through a variety of techniques and use side coaching. You will be given a short scene to study in the 1st session which you will need to learn for the following week.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring something to take notes with. A camera phone might also be useful.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Screen acting Improvers or advanced depending on your level of experience. Your tutor will offer guidance in class.
