Introduction to Digital Skills

At City Lit we offer a range of courses that will help you to:

  • improve your digital skills on your computers, smartphones or tablet devices
  • inrease your confidence, whether you are working from home or in an office
  • and help you to communicate more effectively with family and friends online

These introduction courses will provide you with a firm foundation across a range of digital skills including an overview of using a computer, being online, using your smartphone and remaining secure and safe.

After completing these courses, you can move to our accredited courses or more specialised Office programs.

All our courses are run by experienced and creative tutors who will ensure you learn at the right level and pace with all the support you need. We are here to help you become an active digital citizen.

We offer a range of courses allowing you to choose between online and in-person learning. All our courses are live, interactive, and taught by expert tutors. No matter how you prefer to learn, you’ll receive the same great City Lit experience. See our guide to online learning for more information about accessing our live online courses.

These courses are FREE to most learners if you earn less than £21, 157.50 a year or are on JSA or ESA (WRAG). Essential Digital Skills for Work has no fee. They are either in the City Lit building or live online interactive classes. For online courses, you will need a computer with a microphone, a camera and the internet.     We live in an increasingly digitalised world where use of the computer and Internet have become the norm. This course follows on from our Becoming Confident course to enable you to become fully confident in your computer and Internet use. You will learn how to navigate around the internet in order to be a more informed digital citizen as well as learn about the cloud and how to manage your files. You will also learn more about how to protect your data and digital security as well as how to take advantage of many free resources and use various websites so you can become a confident digital citizen able to navigate around your computer as well as the web.



    This course is FREE if a) you are on a Low Wage or b) you are either on Jobseekers' Allowance (JSA) or Employment & Support Allowance(ESA) or c) you want to get a job or progress into a better job and you receive other state benefits (including Universal Credit).
