What is the course about?
This course aims to strengthen your elementary knowledge of French. You will learn new structures and vocabulary around different topics so you can express yourself in everyday situations. The emphasis is on speaking and listening.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
Topics: personal information; routine and leisure activities; health and lifestyle.
Grammar: consolidation of the present tense; use of basic pronouns; introduction to the imperfect; comparatives and superlatives; negative forms.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Suitable for those who have recently studied French for about a year or who have an equivalent knowledge of the language.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables).
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Based on City Lit’s digital handbook, all details will be given during the first lesson. Please note that no printed copies will be provided.

After studying English in a French University, Sylviane decided to move to the UK and very soon, started to give French Private Tuitions. She then successfully attended Adult Teaching courses and attends many Trainings on a yearly basis. She also gave support and advice in writing a book on learning Hindi. Sylviane has experience in teaching French to Students of different backgrounds and levels; this includes French grammar, culture including francophone culture, litterature and more specific subjects. Sylviane enjoys teaching and uses her creativity in her teaching. Being a life Coach specialised in Education, gives Sylviane the increased ability to adjust and help a diversity of Students. Sylviane speaks 5 languages and is currently learning Shikomori, a language related to Kiswahili. "Learning French helps you understand many different cultures and its people (Francophones countries). Learning a language is also best to nothing else to keep dementia away".
