Our range of part-time, weekend and evening art and design classes are taught by successful artists and practitioners to ensure you get the skills, knowledge and experience you want and deserve. From experimental painting and drawing to contemporary jewellery making, there is sure to be a course for you. Study from 1 day to 2 years, whether you are a complete beginner or a practising artist preparing for an MA. Our courses are designed with you in mind, so you get to spend more time doing what you love.

We offer a range of courses allowing you to choose between online and in-person learning. All our courses are live, interactive, and taught by expert tutors. We host exhibitions throughout the year at City Lit Gallery where our students showcase their amazing work.

    An introduction to a range of watercolour techniques such as layering, masking out and creating textures, to gain basic skills and an insight into the possibilities of this exciting medium.   3. Developing Art Practice year 2

    This is the second year of Developing Art Practice, designed for those developing and practicing artists who have completed the first year and are interested in working and connecting with a widening group of their creative peer group. Work-based seminars facilitated by peers and artist-tutors present the opportunity to develop and present your ongoing work for critical discourse and to continue to develop a contemporary critical language. The course includes individual tutorials and mentoring, critical investigation via group crits, engaging with gallery practice and artist-run organisations and the potential for collaborative work and discussion and debate. This course will be delivered onsite.

  4. Modern calligraphy

    Learn how to write elegant stylish letterforms using a flexible pointed nib with ink. Once you’ve learnt how to write a basic alphabet we’ll begin breaking the rules of traditional calligraphy to find a style that is all your own. The course is suitable for beginners as well as improvers.

On this course you will explore techniques used by professionals to produce effective props and sets. Get hands-on experience of sculpting, fabricating, mould making, casting and using paint effects. Learn about the demands of the industry from specialist tutors, and have a go at translating your own ideas into 3D.
