What is the course about?

This course aims to further improve your lower intermediate French, at a gentle pace. You will build up your confidence by learning the language gradually with the emphasis on speaking and listening. You will move from basic language skills towards fluency and the course will give you a greater insight into French life and culture.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

These may vary according to the needs and interests of the group, but we plan to offer the following:

- topics: films and books; francophone culture; past events; etc.
- grammar: revision of simple relative pronouns, consolidation of various uses of the past tenses (imperfect, passé composé, pluperfect).

The content of the course will be in line with the French 3 upper at a gentle pace module and will enable you to practise the above points further.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- have more confidence in your ability to understand and be understood in simple French
- understand the main information and some detailed information of aural texts
- ask and answer questions about specific interests
- describe and recommend a film or a book
- know more about francophone culture, and discuss it

Please note that the learning outcomes may vary depending on the general progress made by the students.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed a French 2 upper course or have done 3 years of French recently. It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basic grammar terminology (e.g. noun, adjective, conjugation, etc.).
If you are not sure about your level, please contact Languages on languages@citylit.ac.uk or check our level assessment chart on: http://www.citylit.ac.uk/self-assess-your-level.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role-plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The course is mainly based on the tutor's own materials. The tutor will advise you on a course book at the beginning of the term if necessary. Please note that the course book is used as a support only. You will not cover all the activities in the book during the course.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

French 3 lower: conversation starting next term. Please enrol as soon as possible as places cannot be guaranteed.
