RACONTER LA VIE : Etude d’un projet pour un « roman vrai »

L'époque est ainsi. Crispations de la société sur ses extrêmes, désespoir pour certains, et recherche d'autres façons de s'engager, hors du champ politique traditionnel, pour d'autres. Aujourd'hui se pose la question de maintenir une démocratie équitable et solidaire et de donner la parole à ceux qu'il appelle les "invisibles". Le projet politique Raconter la vie, en ouvre la possibilité à chacun d'écrire et d'être lu, en ligne ou en librairie.

Parmi les textes choisis, certains sont d’auteur.e.s connu.e.s ; d’autres sont de ceux qui le souhaitent à en être les personnages et les auteurs.

What is the course about?

This course will discuss a few texts from Pierre Rosanvallon’s project Raconter la vie, which seeks to tell the story of ordinary lives, of voice heard small-scale with everyday aspiration taken into account. “Raconter la vie” has welcomed a diversity of experiences and approaches: autobiographical texts, sociological analysis, journalistic investigation and ethnographic literature.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.

Au cours des dernières décennies, lorsqu’on a vu se réaffirmer un « retour au réel » en littérature. Des auteurs comme Annie Ernaux ou François Bon témoignent d’un engagement de la littérature à explorer le quotidien, à sonder les relations sociales et à rendre compte de la vie individuelle et collective en collaboration étroite avec l’aide des sciences sociales. Voici quelques autres exemples :

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- to become a proficient French speaker with a critical appreciation of the literature and film, culture and contemporary history of France and French-speaking countries
- to develop enhanced oral capacity to organise and structure ideas
- to analyse and discuss a range of literary texts, with confidence
- to identify the major institutional and ideological factors at play in the social, political and cultural development of modern and contemporary French literature.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have an advanced level of French and an interest in history, culture and society as well as in literature. They should also be able to read literary works in French, to lead and participate in discussions in French.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
