Ever marvelled at the beautiful images of interiors in glossy magazines? Learn the secrets of the photography of interiors from the old and grand to the contemporary. Explore the equipment and composition, and discover editing and processing techniques to produce your own professional-looking images.

What is the course about?

A short practical course on the techniques required to achieve effective photographs of interiors, using both film (with scanning) and digital cameras. You'll be given expert guidance on all the essentials, from equipment, composition and lighting, to stitching images and controlling colour and contrast.

What will we cover?

- Composition, lens and equipment choice
- Stitching of images to create ultra-wide angle images
- Lighting of interiors and colour control of mixed-lighting situations
- Correcting verticals (vertical lines) in camera and software
- Control of contrast.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- select appropriate equipment for the photography of interiors
- blend images in software to create wide angle perspectives
- compose an image of an interiors view
- control the colour of a mixed-lighting environment
- control the contrast of an image.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Ideal for those who have completed our 'Beginner's photography: stage 1' course, or for anyone who already has a basic understanding of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance and how to change these on your digital SLR or bridge camera (i.e. not a point-and-shoot camera). You will need to have manual functions on your camera (i.e. be able to change the aperture and shutter speed settings).

You will need to be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and be prepared to take part in group discussion. You should be happy using numbers and able to do simple measurements and calculations.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Bring your camera, tripod and flashgun if you have them, although City Lit can supply you with all equipment required except film. You will be encouraged to print some images from the first session, at your own expense.

If you would like to buy art materials for your personal use outside of the course, City Lit students receive 10% discount off everything* from Cass Art, the UK's leading art supplies retailer. You will need to show your enrolment receipt in-store to receive your discount.
