This two-day course immerses you in modern and contemporary sculpture through a guided visit to Tate Modern and a practical session at City Lit’s sculpture studio. On the first day, explore key works, discuss techniques, and gather inspiration with an expert tutor. On the second day, develop an exhibition proposal or create a small 3D artwork using clay, plaster, latex, and wax, while exploring foundational sculptural concepts in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Please bring your camera (if you have one) to the classes and you may wish to bring a notebook and pen. City Lit has a range of Digital SLR and mirrorless cameras (Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Sony), tripods, lenses and flash which you are welcome to use during the hours of the class.
It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive - please note: PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers but not written to.) We advise all students to have a notebook (A5) to support the recording of information and ideas.

If you’ve mastered the basics and want to develop your skills, our improver level course focuses on refining key fundamentals such as turns, cross-body leads, and styling. You’ll be challenged to dance to Salsa music at different tempos, building confidence as you learn and to practice more complex moves. No partner needed, part of the fun is meeting new people, but most of all enjoying yourself while learning.

When Twin Peaks ended in 1991, audiences were left with a warning: ‘I’ll see you again in 25 years’. Much of the show’s surrealism wasn’t to be taken literally, but this time showrunners David Lynch and Mark Frost made good on their word, releasing Twin Peaks: The Return a quarter century later to rapturous acclaim. This course will explore how The Return both built upon and shattered much of what the series established through contexts like reboots, streaming, and Lynch’s wider oeuvre.
