Learn Intermediate Italian – Courses in London & Online

This short course is geared towards helping you sound more like a native speaker of Italian. While Italian pronunciation may seem relatively simple, there are actually quite a few features that require focus and practice. This course will allow you to concentrate on the sounds of Italian - how to produce them when speaking and how to recognise them when listening.

This skills-based course is for intermediate learners of Italian and is intended to improve your Italian speaking skills in everyday situations. We will be looking at both formal and informal scenarios, and the aim is to help you to feel more comfortable speaking Italian in order to improve your fluency.

Consolidate your upper intermediate level of Italian in this interactive class. Further practise the main topics and grammar points learned at level 3 lower and 3 upper through some speaking and listening activities. A summer revision course for intermediate learners who would like extra practice to consolidate their learning over the summer and prepare for future courses.

Continue consolidating your Italian and find yourself speaking with increasing confidence on this communicative course for students who have studied Italian for year and are now starting their second year. The emphasis is on developing your oral skills. Suitable if you have completed 'Italian beginners' or have an equivalent level (about a year of part-time study). Based on Nuovo Espresso 2 (Alma Edizioni, Italian version).

Italian 3 lower is our course for learners in their fourth year of Italian, so it's meant for intermediate learners who are at CEFR level B1. Italian 3 lower comes after Italian beginners, Italian 2 lower and then Italian 2 upper. You'll improve your intermediate Italian on this communicative course through speaking and listening activities, so the emphasis is on developing your oral skills, but you'll continue to learn more complex grammar and expand your vocabulary.

Italian 2 upper is our third-year Italian course, so this year you'll be progressing through lower intermediate Italian towards intermediate. You'll find yourself learning new ways to express yourself more accurately and confidently. The emphasis is on the development of your oral skills. Suitable if you have completed 'Italian 2 lower', or have studied Italian for about 2 years. Based on Nuovo Espresso 2 (Alma Edizioni, Italian version).

A revision course for learners at an upper intermediate level who wish to brush up on the grammar and vocabulary they’ve covered so far on their Italian learning journey. If you feel like you could do with another look at some key grammar points, perhaps from a different angle, this course should get you feeling more confident about your grasp of Italian grammar. You'll also have opportunities to practise your speaking and listening skills to improve your fluency.

Italian 2 lower: module 1 is the first module of second-year Italian, and you'll find yourself communicating with increasing confidence. Italian 2 lower at a gentle pace will cover the same language points as the standard Italian 2 lower course, but with slightly longer lesson times there will be more time to go over topics a bit more slowly. The emphasis is on developing your oral skills, but you will still be working on your reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Suitable if you have completed 'Italian beginners' or equivalent. Gain a GCSE qualification and develop your practical language and exam skills. Suitable if you have studied Italian for about two years. The course fee includes non-refundable exam costs, payable in advance. Course fees are payable in instalments.







This course will be delivered online. However, a mock exam will take place in February 2025 at our central London college. You will therefore need to make sure that you make the necessary arrangements so that you can attend. The date will be posted when the mock exam has been set up.







The official exams will also take place at our Covent Garden college during the months of May and June (exact dates to be confirmed). Please note that the end date of the course may change depending on when the official exams are scheduled.

**City Lit is an adult education college, so we are only able to accept candidates who are aged 19 or over.

This course follows the A-level syllabus and is suitable for those who would like to progress in Italian in a structured way. The course does not lead to the exam but aims to prepare you to join the Italian A Level course next year. Ideally you should have taken GCSE Italian (having achieved a grade 7, 8 or 9) or have equivalent upper intermediate knowledge. The course is divided into three parts (parts 2 and 3 will take place in term 2 and 3).
