What is the course about?
Pilates Barre Workout is performed in standing using the ballet barre to assist stability and alignment. Pilates Barre Workout offers the core conditioning and alignment principles of Pilates, combined with weight bearing toning and strength work for the lower body. Strengthening will occur in the gluteal and deep rotator muscles of the hips, in the thighs and lower legs, in the feet and ankles. Some upper body resistance and floor based stretching may be incorporated in some lessons.

Pilates based movement sequences performed in standing at the barre
Toning for strength and endurance of muscles in the lower body, working in parallel and in turn out positions
Flexible strength derived from Pilates
Total body joint mobility and flexibility
Alignment and Balance work
Core strength training
Principles of how to exercise safely, effectively and with a holistic approach.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Perform Pilates based sequences of standing movement based at the barre
Demonstrate increased cardio-vascular fitness, strength and endurance
Carry out toning of all major muscle groups of the lower body in parallel and turned out positions
Demonstrate improved movement co-ordination movement, and ability to balance
Maintain body alignment and core strength throughout movement sequences
Demonstrate development of flexibility and mobility
Define fitness and list health benefits of fitness
Describe some basic principles of how to exercise safely.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for all levels, adaptations and progressions will be offered as appropriate.
The nature iof this workout course places considerable emphasis on use of the joints in the lower body. Prospective students with joint conditions that affect the lower limbs should consult their medical practitioner or physiotherapist prior to enrolling on this course.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Demonstration, follow me, circulation, observation, general group feedback, individual learner support, mini lecture.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Fitted comfortable clothing suitable for exercise. Exercises should be performed in barefoot exercise shoes, bare feet, ballet or jazz slippers depending on individual student's preference.
