This course is suitable if you have recently arrived in the UK from abroad and/or missed out on the education at school due to communication barriers. This course will help you to develop your basic communication skills in various social settings such as starting, maintaining and ending the conversations, confirming your understanding of the conversation flow and/or ask for clarification if/when necessary, asking and answering questions on various social topics etc. You will develop your basic vocabulary linked to everyday life, spelling and punctuation.You will also develop basic study skills to help you to complete simple tasks and do homework on your own. This course has no exam. To be able to participate in this course, you will need to have basic BSL skills.

This class is suitable for total beginners who have little or no experience of lipreading or who have completed a lipreading class at any level in the past, but want to go back to basics. You will learn how to recognise some sounds that are visible on the lips and how to use other tactics to support lipreading and how to manage hearing loss.

Develop your lipreading skills and strategies for face-to-face communication and keep up-to-date with relevant equipment and services. This course is suitable if you have completed improvers module 1.







This course will be taught in spoken English and not in sign language.

Learn strategies to help you speak more easily. You'll also work on becoming less sensitive about stammering, reducing avoidance strategies and developing self confidence. Designed specifically for people who stammer /stutter.

If you often manage to conceal your stammering (also known as stuttering), this course will help you to understand your particular type of stammering, reduce negative feelings, learn strategies to speak more easily and develop self-confidence.

Develop and practise a range of essential core counselling skills to help you work with emotional issues you will encounter as an SLT. You will receive feedback and learn through experience and reflective practice. This course is suitable for recently qualified therapists as well as therapists in training.

This course will most benefit students who experience cluttering. Some features of cluttering are:







• Speaking quickly, often with rapid bursts of speech



• Some words being unclear or mis-pronounced



• Difficulties in explaining and conveying sequences of information



• Difficulties in being understood by the listener







Cluttering can be present as the only communication challenge or alongside stammering, dyslexia and/or ADHD (formal diagnosis is not required).







This course will provide you with skills to become more aware and knowledgeable of your voice and speech. The course will also explore ways to develop effective listening and communication strategies.

During this course you will explore different ways of managing your money so you can reach your goals, deal with unexpected stuff, and feel good about having enough money. We'll make it fun and interesting to learn about money. By the end, you'll understand why having a budget is important, how to keep track of what you spend, be ready for bills, and even plan for big things like a holiday or buying a home.
