What will we cover?

We will discuss news items and current affairs of Welsh interest, cover grammar work and read a Welsh language novel in class.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Discuss the content of a book with confidence
- Give your opinion accurately
- Understand news items more confidently
- Improve your grammatical accuracy.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The core subject matter of the classes is equally suitable for those who have been learning Welsh at level 4 as for level 5 students.

For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart, using the link at the top of this page. You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc). It is essential that you have knowledge of more complex grammar terminology.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Material used in the course will be largely provided by the tutor and include grammar work from Cwrs Uwch and Cwrs Meistroli Ceredigion as well as news items and current affairs from BBC Cymru Fyw.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

LW421 Welsh 4/5 (advanced) in January. Please enrol as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
