What is the course about?

The class consists of exercises based on Ballet technique performed lying and sitting on the floor. The forerunner of Pilates, Floor-Barre is an ideal way to prepare and maintain the body in strengthening, lengthening & toning, whilst increasing flexibility.
It allows you to really focus on working different parts of the body and in building core strength, without having to worry about standing up or balancing. The floor work is excellent for improving posture and preparing body alignment for Ballet and other movement classes. The class caters for all different levels and gives you a surprisingly thorough workout.

What will we cover?

The tutor will explain and demonstrate the basics of Floor- Barre through a range of practical exercises. The course aims to show the students how to become aware of and unlearn habits of misuse that shows up as tension, muscle bulk and mis-alignment restricting freedom of movement. Some Yoga basics may be included, that are very beneficial for the updated Floor barre exercises nowadays.
The course will cover:
Body alignment
Tension release
Clarity of arm and leg positions
Strengthening of muscles and joints
Toning of the abdominals, hips and legs
Broadening of individual repertoire and guidance on its suitability.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Recognise increased strength and flexibility
Demonstrate improved core stability
Show improved muscle tone without bulk
Use the body correctly, identify correct technique and obtain greater ability.
Experience relaxation to reduce stress and to help still the mind.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a general level class suitable for beginners and improvers. The class is perfect for dancers, actors, performers, athletes or those recovering from injury. The class is also useful as preparation before a dance class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching will include practical class work as well as discussion, observation and supportive feedback for individual and group awareness.
Through a series of set exercises enabling you to work on isolated parts of the body without tensing; as you might when standing, resulting in a safe and very effective workout.
Whilst the majority of the work takes place on the floor the class may culminate with standing. You will be able to experiment and use the floor work in some standing positions in some classes.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

clearly.
