Mark Fisher: 1968-2017

Story added 30th Jan 2017

City Lit is very saddened to announce the passing of Mark Fisher, social theorist, philosopher, artist, critic and tutor at City Lit for many years.

Mark was the author of Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative? and Ghosts of My Life, as well as an influential blogger, writing under the name k-punk.

Mark was an inspirational philosophy tutor here, popular amongst students and hugely respected by staff. Mark left City Lit four years ago to become a full time tutor at Goldsmiths in the Department of Visual Cultures.

Paying tribute, Simon O’Sullivan, head of Goldsmiths Visual Cultures said, “He was intelligent, sensitive, funny, and, above all, generous and kind.”

He leaves a wife, Zoё, and a young son, George.

Anyone who wishes to do so, can make a contribution to Mark's Memorial Fund
