In our 3rd year of study you will develop your aural, harmonic and rhythmic sense through the study of jazz standards, improvisation and transcription. Most sessions involve playing as an ensemble, guided by aural skill and academic knowledge.

If you already play jazz and can recognise intervals and diatonic seventh chords in sequence, come and develop your aural, harmonic and rhythmic sense through the study of jazz standards and improvisation. Focus on ear training and developing jazz improvisation, applying theoretical understanding to practical situations. We will learn and study jazz standards and unusual repertoire. This is musicianship training at a high level. Assessment for entry to this course can be arranged applying to music@citylit.ac.uk.

Learn transcribed solos and participate in playing sessions. For players who have completed terms 1 and 2 this year, and new students who have studied jazz in this way.

Our sessions involve playing as an ensemble. New students who wish to join this 3rd term are welcome to apply to music@citylit.ac.uk.

'Train the Trainer' is a practical 2 day course designed to help you gain ideas for effective facilitation and managing groups. It is suitable if you are thinking of becoming a trainer and want to gain confidence in planning and facilitating the training, or if you are an experienced trainer and want to refresh your practice. You will leave with some tools and techniques that will ensure your training is engaging and productive for your learners. On day 2 you will have the opportunity to deliver a short micro-training or interactive presentation. You are required to attend both days of this course.

The City & Guilds (6502) Award in Education and Training is an initial teacher training course ideal for anyone who teaches adults - or has experience of teaching adults - in Further Education or Adult and Community Learning. We may also consider you if you do not have teaching experience, but are qualified in your subject and have worked in a related field. This course will me mainly online with two sessions at City Lit towards the end of the course. Please note this course will be mainly online, except for sessions 8 and 10, and possibly 11.

The City & Guilds (6502) Award in Education and Training (blended) is an initial teacher training course ideal for anyone who teaches adult learners (or has some experience of teaching) in the Further Education and Adult and Community Learning sectors. We may also accept you if you have not taught before but have related work or voluntary experience. You will be asked to attend 4 Saturdays and 1 weekend - Saturdays: 23 and 30 Sept, 4 and 11 Nov; Saturday and Sunday: 2 and 3 Dec. Please note this course will be online except sessions 4 and 5 on 11 Nov and 2 Dec. You may also be asked to come in on 3rd Dec.
