Revise and consolidate your speaking and listening skills, as well as your grammar. Suitable if you have completed completed 2-3 years of study in the past.

Come and consolidate your upper-intermediate French. You will develop your listening skills and practise your oral French by taking part in discussions, debates on news items and cultural events.

With proceeds going to the City Lit Student Bursary, the French Film matinée is a chance to round out the term with a fun movie matinée in the college. The film will be presented by tutor Stéphanie Radet.



The film we will be watching is Les 400 coups by François Truffaut (1959), a film about Antoine Doinel, a semi-autobiographical character and a misunderstood adolescent in Paris who struggles with his parents and teachers.

If you would like to consolidate your French 4 level before moving to French 5, this course is ideal, as it will develop your speaking and listening skills and consolidate your grammar.

Come and practise your intermediate spoken French and develop your language skills in these topical discussion classes. Based on recordings from French television, radio news and newspaper articles.

The course is an introduction to the relation between French literature and ideological, political and social discourse in France, from postcolonialism and feminism in the 20th century to the relationship between sociology and literature. The course will also explore contemporary genres of French writing such as autofiction and documentary-fiction.

An opportunity to gain an A-level qualification in one year. You will study topics on the society, history and culture of contemporary France and will develop relevant exam skills. Suitable if you have studied French for about five years. The course fee includes non-refundable exam costs payable in advance and is payable in instalments.







This course will be delivered online. However, a mock exam will take place on a Saturday in February 2026 (date TBC) at our central London college. You will therefore need to make sure that you make the necessary arrangements so that you can attend on that date.







The official exams will also take place at our Covent Garden college during the months of May and June (exact dates to be confirmed).

A gentle introduction to French literature. You will read, analyse and discuss a book to develop your understanding of the French language and writing style. The course takes place every other week.
