Do you enjoy reading in Italian and writing in English? Are you interested in the similarities and differences between English-speaking and Italian-speaking cultures? Do you have a particular interest and/or background in literature, especially literature in other languages? Would you like to see if you have a special knack for translation, perhaps with a view to doing it professionally? Come and join this interactive translation course to hone your translation skills.

This skills-based course is for intermediate learners of Italian and is intended to improve your Italian speaking skills in everyday situations. We will be looking at both formal and informal scenarios, and the aim is to help you to feel more comfortable speaking Italian in order to improve your fluency.

Italian 5: Italia oggi è un corso avanzato per praticare l'Italiano, utilizzando testi e materiale audio-visivo. Affronteremo temi sull'Italia contemporanea attraverso letteratura, programmi televisi, giornalismo, film, pubblicità ed….esperienze personali.

Questi corsi ti daranno la possibilità di migliorare le tue capacità di comprensione ed espressione scritta ed orale e sono basati sull'uso di materiale audiovisivo, lettura, discussione e pratica grammaticale. È necessario aver completato il livello 3 lower o equivalente. Il corso si basa sul libro Nuovo Espresso 3 (Alma Edizioni).

Italian 3 lower is our course for learners in their fourth year of Italian, so it's meant for intermediate learners who are at CEFR level B1. Italian 3 lower comes after Italian beginners, Italian 2 lower and then Italian 2 upper. You'll improve your intermediate Italian on this communicative course through speaking and listening activities, so the emphasis is on developing your oral skills, but you'll continue to learn more complex grammar and expand your vocabulary.

An opportunity to gain an A-level qualification in one year. You will study topics on the society, history and culture of contemporary Italy and will develop relevant exam skills. Suitable if you have studied Italian for about five years. The course fee includes non-refundable exam costs payable in advance and is payable in instalments.

This course will be delivered online. However, a mock exam will take place in February 2025 at our central London college. You will therefore need to make sure that you make the necessary arrangements so that you can attend. The exact date will be posted when the mock exam has been set up.







The official exams will also take place at our Covent Garden college during the months of May and June (exact dates to be confirmed). Please note that the end date of the course may change depending on when the official exams are scheduled.

This course follows the A-level syllabus and is suitable for those who would like to progress in Italian in a structured way. The course does not lead to the exam but aims to prepare you to join the Italian A Level course next year. Ideally you should have taken GCSE Italian (having achieved a grade 7, 8 or 9) or have equivalent upper intermediate knowledge. The course is divided into three parts (parts 2 and 3 will take place in term 2 and 3).

An evening revision course for learners who have done about three years of Italian and who wish to brush up on the grammar covered so far. If you feel like you could do with another look at some key grammar points, perhaps from a different angle, this course should get you feeling more confident about your grasp of Italian grammar.

This session - conducted entirely in Italian - is the first part of an introduction to the Divine Comedy. The first session introduces you to Dante's life, his political and philosophical views and gives an overview of the structure of the poem. We will devote the following three sessions (from January onwards) to reading, analysing and commenting on a selection of cantos. Please note that the selection of the cantos read in the following sessions will be different from that of previous years, so you are welcome to re-enrol even if you have attended before.

With proceeds going to the City Lit Student Bursary, the Italian Film Night is a chance to round out the term with a fun movie night in the college. The film will be presented by Francesco Bucciol, head of the Classics department and our Italian GCSE and A Level tutor. Francesco will also lead a discussion after the film.







For this term's Italian film night, we will be showing and discussing excerpts from a classic (perhaps THE classic) Italian film, La Dolce Vita.
