What is the course about?

This course is aimed at people who want to learn how to use social marketing media for business. You will learn what social media marketing offers, the places where this happens, and the skills to create, monitor and manage a social marketing plan.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is most suitable for beginners and people with some basic experience in using social networks (such as Facebook or Instagram). You should have good computer keyboard and file management skills and be a confident user of both the internet and email. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course consists of demonstrations, practical activities and discussions. One to one guidance and support will be given throughout. Each student has access to a computer for practical work.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

If you have existing social network accounts you can use these during the course if you wish. If you do not, and wish to use a particular network you will be supported in creating an account you can use to gain hands-on experience.
You will need to have a valid email address and its password to sign up for a new account. Course handouts will be provided by your tutor.

Julian Holden

Julian worked as a technical manager for two large organisations before taking a career break to study for an MA and to qualify as a teacher. He now divides his business hours between working as a freelance marketing consultant and business coach for small to medium-sized businesses, and teaching for City Lit, two other colleges, and for a number of charities that help people gain the skills to start their own business. His key interests include web design and marketing, content strategy, search engine marketing and the use of social media. He is a huge fan of WordPress and also teaches a range of IT courses in Java, Python, PHP and App development.
