Discover the pleasure of playing in small ensembles with varied instrumentation, with repertoire ranging from early to modern. For instrumentalists at Grade 3 standard or above who can read music confidently.

Join us for an exploration of the ways we experience global literatures of our time. Inter-generational memory is the focus of two prize-winning novels, The Vegetarian (2007) by Han Kang and The Island of Missing Trees (2021) by Elif Shafak. Unearthing the painful truths of history in the context of culturally/politically divided Korea and Cyprus, the authors deal delicately, and brutally, with love, the environment, patriarchy, resistance and the metamorphosis of the female body.

This course, separate but complementary to the other Summer Flamenco dance courses, will focus on the graceful execution of archetypal flamenco arm & wrist movements combined with foot placement. Featuring a live guitarist this is an intensive course suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced student. Men and women of all ages are welcome.

Build a foundation of basic dance skills on this fun intensive which will have you dancing the energetic Charleston. You will be dancing to original jazz music from the 1920s and 30s as well different music styles to show that you can dance the Charleston to almost any beat.

Study how to improvise in popular music. These two practical sessions are for players of any instrument. Get to grips with improvisation in this exploration of common scales and approaches to improv in pop, rock, blues, folk and jazz. We’ll look at blues scales, pentatonics, extension notes and more to help you get the most out of your improvisation.

Enjoy playing and improvising on familiar and new jazz repertoire in a mixed ensemble. For players with substantial experience of jazz playing, ear training techniques and harmony study. Tunes will be announced and charts sent out two weeks in advance of the course. Rhythm section places are available for guitar, piano, bass and drums.
