  6. Artist talk: Tony Hull - I’ll know it when I see it: process, content and meaning
    Weekend
Course Date: Sat 17 Apr 2021

    Location on this date: Online

Tony Hull is a visual artist based in London. He uses photography and performance as an impetus for drawing and painting, allowing the individual qualities of each medium to shape his work’s development. He’s particularly excited by the role of drawing as a creative catalyst and has run numerous workshops investigating its potential with design professionals in Britain, the U.S. and China.

In this talk he unpacks his creative process through reference mainly to work made over the last year. The relationship between visual research and the impact of each medium’s material qualities is explored. From the re-enactment of archival photographs in the studio to the emergence through photographic, drawing and painting processes of an incomplete index of witness, he considers how the physical act of making and artefact acknowledge the essential, concrete existence of the body. Tony Hull is a drawing and painting tutor at city lit and a major contributor to its fine art course.
