For vocalists with a sound technique and experience of jazz and Latin styles. Develop your solo performance and expand your repertoire. Challenging repertoire and vocalese will be taught and you will be invited to contribute repertoire of your choice.

Continue learning to speak Italian on this communicative course, with the emphasis on the practical use of Italian and the development of your speaking and listening skills. Suitable if you have completed beginners: module 2 or equivalent. Based on Nuovo Espresso 1 (Alma Edizioni - Italian version). Suggested progression route: Italian 2 lower: module 1.

The emphasis is on the practical use of German and the development of your speaking and listening skills. Based on chapters 1-4 of Willkommen (Hodder Arnold). 1.5 hours per week over 7 weeks.

We will study time, form, root movement and harmonic progression, chord types, intervals, scales and modes. Learn transcribed solos and participate in playing sessions. For players with a working knowledge of basic harmony and instrumental proficiency beyond grade 5. Please contact music@citylit.ac.uk to arrange to be assessed for entry to this course. If you already play jazz and can recognise intervals and diatonic seventh chords in sequence, come and develop your aural, harmonic and rhythmic sense through the study of jazz standards and improvisation. Welcome to the third year of drum class: work to improve your coordinated independence and application of rudiments to the kit. Includes reading drum notation.

Our ensemble for proficient jazz players to improve and maintain sight reading and section work, playing music from the classic era of Big Bands plus contemporary and original arrangements. Contact the Music department to enquire about availability of a place for your instrument and to arrange your audition.

Maintain and extend your playing skills in our advanced course. Repertoire is pop, jazz, and world music, and you will rehearse sax ensemble arrangements.

Our classes are designed to expand and develop your repertoire of steps as well as help you polish off your technique to become more confident on the dance floor when you are attending social dances or other special events. This course is perfect for those who have completed our Beginner’s programme or equivalent.



Students will build on their presentation skills by using their arms, hands and legs while dancing the three routines. Please note: There is no class on Saturday 25 May 2024.

This course is perfect for those who are new to Ballroom dance or looking to brush up on existing skills. Taught in a friendly and supportive atmosphere you will learn the basic steps and techniques of both Ballroom and Latin dance. No partner is required to join the course. You will perform with different members of the class, acquire some great dance knowledge and with the added benefit of feeling healthier! Please note: There is no class on Saturday 25 May 2024.

Continue improving your elementary Spanish on this communicative course, taught in Spanish with the emphasis on speaking and listening. Suitable if you have completed 'Spanish 2 lower: module 1' or equivalent. Based on units 6-10 of 'Ele Actual A2 (libro del alumno)' and exercise book (SM Publishers).

If you have pop piano training or equivalent classical keyboard harmony skill, come and tackle the easier end of the jazz piano repertoire. The focus is on jazz harmony and voicing, interpretation of a lead sheet and good timing. You'll need to play piano at grade 5 or above.

A friendly intensive class, that focuses on the confident execution of Flamenco dance with pleasure, passion and panache. This course is geared towards beginners (more experienced students wishing to revise the basics are also welcome). Performance opportunities throughout the year. This advanced course for developing and practicing artists consists of work-based seminars facilitated by peers and artist-tutors, giving you the opportunity to develop and present your work for critical discourse. The course includes individual tutorials and mentoring, critical investigation via group crits, visits to galleries and artist-run organisations, collaborative work and discussion and debate. This course is one of the eligible programmes for application to Bloomberg New Contemporaries.

Year 3 (VM553) is the culmination of the CLFA course and combines practical studio sessions with a professional and externally focussed remit designed to enable you to further refine your creative work and enhance your professional capabilities in the development of an independent artistic practice. The course encourages students to find and pursue external opportunities relevant to their practice such as organising an exhibition or collaborating with external organisations.



Building upon and consolidating the learnings gained in year 1 and 2 of CLFA, or on your experience of practicing and studying to an equivalent level, you will pursue an individual, self-motivated route through year 3. This will be based upon an existing portfolio, defined intentions, and ongoing creative projects. The Year 3 course is designed to support individual development of new artwork that extends an existing creative practice. It will also allow you to enhance this with an understanding of professional activities that might include the process of making funding applications, finding exhibition opportunities, or developing external relationships. You will be able to engage with practicing artist/tutors in group critiques, one-to-one tutorials, seminars, and self-motivated studio production sessions in which you can explore and refine your skills and creative ideas. There will be engagement with ideas and contexts, and professional practice-based sessions that support the development of your creative work so that it can be sustained beyond the duration of the course.
