Music Courses & Classes in London and Online

We offer a wide range of piano, singing and instrumental workshops from complete beginners to advanced standard, daytime, evening or weekend. We also offer music theory, music tech, history, choirs, orchestra and jazz ensembles.

Choosing your course

Based in the heart of Covent Garden, we have two Model D Steinway pianos, Yamaha acoustic pianos and two suites of digital pianos. Music students have access to practice rooms for the duration of their course and we use the latest versions of Sibelius, Logic and Max/MSP for our music technology courses.

Expert tutors

Our classes are taught by professional performers and practitioners, many of whom also teach at leading London universities and music conservatoires. We also offer advanced piano masterclasses with visiting performers and professors each year. Please refer to individual course outlines for individual staff biographies.

Studying at City Lit

City Lit students have a proud history of learning an instrument or singing from scratch as well as studying more advanced courses such as music theory exams, and preparing for advanced piano diplomas. Many of our jazz students form ensembles together and we frequently organise concerts and recitals in and around Central London.

  9. Jazz piano 1

    If you have pop piano training or equivalent keyboard harmony skill, come and tackle the easier end of the jazz piano repertoire in these online sessions. The focus is on jazz harmony and chord voicing, interpretation of a lead sheet and good timing. You'll need to play piano at grade 5 or above.

  13. Jazz rhythm section workout

    This new workshop will attempt to function as the practical part of the jazz harmony & ear training courses. Rhythm section will be coached in matters of playing together, navigating jazz standards. For drummers, bass players, guitarists and pianists who have studied jazz formally.

  14. Big Band: rhythm section rehearsal

  15. Jazz ensemble playing

    If you already play jazz and have substantial understanding of jazz harmony, come and develop your aural, harmonic and rhythmic sense through practical study of jazz standards, improvisation and transcribed solos. While we may not play as a group at this time, you will be set practical tasks and learn useful approaches to develop your playing.This class will meet every 4 weeks.
