For experienced saxophone players, come and extend your technique, musicianship and performance skills in this advanced workshop. The emphasis will be on playing jazz, pop and World music, solo and as an ensemble, developing musicianship skills, and improvisation.

This course aims to give you a basic understanding of Contemporary dance that is influenced by other styles. The course provides an understanding of the basic principles, techniques and style.

Experienced and able players may join our advanced level class for contemporary guitar study. Live sessions on Zoom.

Ideal if you are at intermediate level playing your saxophone, can read and improvise, have some understanding of harmony, and experience of performing. Our repertoire will be pop, jazz and World music. Technical work on the instrument will be combined with solo playing, learning tunes, improvisation and musicianship training.

Learn about tuning your instrument, strumming and picking, simple chords for pop songs, scales and chord symbols on this starter course. Use any acoustic guitar for this introductory course in playing pop, rock, blues and folk styles.

Our ensemble for proficient jazz players to improve and maintain sight reading and section work, playing music from the classic era of Big Bands plus contemporary and original arrangements. Contact the Music department to enquire about availability of a place for your instrument and to arrange your audition.

We will study time, form, root movement and harmonic progression, chord types, intervals, scales and modes. Learn transcribed solos and participate in playing sessions. For players with a working knowledge of basic harmony and instrumental proficiency beyond grade 5. Please contact music@citylit.ac.uk to arrange to be assessed for entry to this course. Jacques Lecoq’s style of theatre training is in the body, it involves exploration of ourselves and the world we live in with a sense of curious play. Lecoq revolutionised the format of theatre craft and his style and techniques are recognised as essential tools to any professional working actor, in its most basic or grandest of themes. It is a style that hugs you warmly and sticks with you, adaptable and diverse.



The Lecoq technique is about the performers engagement, listening physically and their connection in the space, working together as an ensemble, devising your own work and finding new ways to do it are essential.

Welcome to the third year of drum class: work to improve your coordinated independence and application of rudiments to the kit. Includes reading drum notation.

In our 3rd year of study you will develop your aural, harmonic and rhythmic sense through the study of jazz standards, improvisation and transcription. Most sessions involve playing as an ensemble, guided by aural skill and academic knowledge.

Do you enjoy vintage social dancing events but don't have a partner? Looking to nail those moves and increase your freestyle confidence? Then this is the course for you! We will work on foot-work sequences and steps of authentic jazz dancing and Rhythm & Blues Strolls, progressing to faster pace flick kicks and turns for jive and Rock ’n' Roll dances. No partner required! This is a general level course suitable for beginners and improvers.
