This course will help you get become confident in your everyday communication including reading and writing. We will focus on topics that interest you and use these to help you improve the key elements of reading and writing as well as communication skills to enable you to express your thoughts and feelings including in difficult situations. You will learn to how write whole sentences and paragraphs, use adjectives effectively, organise your writing, make notes and complete drafts, spell important common words, use punctuation correctly and develop reading and writing strategies most suited to you. And you will learn some digital skills including reading and finding information from websites.

Develop your lipreading skills and strategies for face-to-face communication and keep up-to-date with relevant equipment and services. This course is suitable if you have completed a lipreading class at improvers' level.







This course will be taught in spoken English and not in sign language.

Are you an experienced lipreader, confident in your theory, but wishing to keep up your skills with continued practice? Suitable if you have been coming to lipreading classes for a while and want to continue to be stretched.

Interested in teaching lipreading to adults? This introductory course leads to the City and Guilds Level 3 national teaching qualification. Combined with our GT106, you can become a qualified lipreading teacher.

Ideal if you have passed level 2 in BSL and are ready to develop the knowledge and skills you need to achieve the level 3 qualification, accredited by Signature.

Ideal if you have completed level 3 in BSL and are ready to develop your skills to level 4 standard. This is a new way to progress onto level 6. This is a Level 4 qualification course accredited by Signature. You will work though a practical programme designed and taught by our experienced teacher.

If you are deaf, have passed level 2 in BSL and are ready to further develop your use of BSL, this level 3 qualification, accredited by Signature will give you further knowledge of BSL and the deaf community in the UK .

The Free Courses for Jobs initiative is for Londoners aged 24 or over at the start of the course who are: on a low-income; or on certain benefits; or do not have a full level 3 qualification. For more information Click here

This course is the language development part of the Level 6 in BSL Studies. Ideal for you if you have passed level 3 in BSL or Level 4 in BSL - depending on your BSL skills. This course is suitable for you if you want to continue to develop your skills up to the appropriate standard for progression to the Level 6 in BSL.

Part-time 19 days spread over 10 lecture blocks







This course will be a mixed delivery mode. Students will attend City Lit, Covent Garden, London for some of the teaching blocks and access some of the blocks online.







You will attend lecture and teaching practice blocks on the following dates.



2024: October 18th/19th November 15th/16th December 13th/14th



2025: January 10th/11th February 7th/8th March 7th/8th



April 4th/5th May 9th May 16th/17th June 13th/14th







If combined with a teaching qualification such as our GT105 Award in Education and Training, this will qualify you to teach Lipreading in the Further Education sector.
