    Do you want to improve your English reading and writing so that you can express yourself confidently and do the most important and common everyday tasks? Join this course and develop your reading and writing, while also talking about your own life events and key issues such as news stories, public figures, health and culture. You will learn how to read and write paragraphs and short texts about topics that interest you and important events. You will practise filling in forms, writing formal and informal letters and emails and you will improve your spelling, vocabulary and use of punctuation. You will also become more confident in expressing your thoughts and feelings and dealing with difficult situations, for example, at work or in your personal life.

  2. English for deaf people: reading for pleasure (entry 1 - entry 2)

    The aim of this course is to develop your reading skills in a friendly and supportive environment. During this course you will read various book stories chosen by the tutor. You will also be discussing your reading materials in BSL, learning new vocabulary and exploring the structure of English. Translating from English to BSL and summarising texts will be a large part of the sessions. This course has no exams.



    This course is FREE if a) you are on a Low Wage or b) you are either on Jobseekers' Allowance (JSA) or Employment & Support Allowance(ESA) or c) you receive other state benefits (including Universal Credit). For more information click here

  3. Maths for life (entry 3)

    Do you need to become more confident in maths in your daily life, whether making calculations with money, understanding figures, charts and graphs in newspapers or online or measuring areas? This course will help you with the essential maths you need to participate, make progress and express yourself in society today. You will work with whole numbers, fractions and decimal numbers and use maths to solve problems involving time, money and measurement. You will learn about the properties of shapes, both 2D and 3D and how to read, interpret and comment on information in tables and charts. By the end of the course, you will be much more aware of how much maths there is in everyday life and how maths can help you.

  4. Maths for life (level 1)

    Become more confident in using maths to solve problems, analyse issues and make decisions at work or in everyday life. This course will make maths come alive. You will see how mathematics is everywhere and you will develop the maths you need to participate, make progress and express yourself in today's society. You will work with whole numbers, fractions, decimal numbers and percentages and recognise the relationships between them. You will work on problem-solving involving time, money and measurements, as well learn how to measure confidently and convert between units of measurement. You will be able to state properties of shapes, both 2D and 3D and be better able to interpret, discuss and comment on the graphs, charts and tables you see in newspapers, on the internet and at work.

  5. Essential digital skills for work (Level 1)

    Are you new to computing? Do you have some digital skills but lack confidence to use them? Would you like to gain the most essential digital skills needed for today's workplace? If you need to develop the foundational digital skills for today's job market, this is the course for you. The course will give you the confidence to use digital devices and tools to collaborate and communicate efficiently with work colleagues, to create documents and presentations, and make simple spreadsheets. You will learn the transferable digital skills you need to progress, participate and express yourself in the workplace. You will also gain a qualification. 53% of UK employees do not have the digital skills needed for work. You don't need to one of them.

  6. BSL Taster Session
    Evening
    Course start date:  Wed 1 Dec 2021 (and 3 other dates)

    This is a one-off free session to give you a taste of what happens in a British Sign Language class. The class will be a fun and relaxed group where you will learn some basic signs in BSL. If you enjoy the class, you can discuss course options with the tutor at the end.
