    Astronomy in focus: Human exploration to the moon and beyond. Prof Ian Crawford and other experts offer short presentations followed by panel debate

    In the year of the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, Professor Ian Crawford, Francisco Diego, Radmila Topalovic and Roger O'Brien offer four short talks on key areas of human exploration, including ethical and scientific aspects, followed by panel debate and discussion.



    Ian Crawford is currently Professor of Planetary Science and Astrobiology at Birkbeck College, University of London. He is also a vice president of the Royal Astronomical Society. Ian's research focusses mainly on lunar geology, including the possibility of finding economically useful resources on the Moon, and on the search for past or present life on Mars.



    Francisco Diego is Senior Teaching Fellow at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, UCL, keen populariser of natural sciences with extensive experience as a planetarium producer/presenter, lecturer, author and broadcaster. He is founder and director of Your Universe, the UCL festival of Astronomy.



    Roger O'brien was the boy the Space Race was run for – ten when Sputnik 1 went into orbit and Patrick Moore began “The Sky at Night”. Six further decades of studying and teaching astronomy have included work with The Royal Ob servatory Greenwich, the Open University and the Workers’ Educational Association and City Lit.



    Radmila Topalovic was an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. She holds a degree in Physics with Astrophysics and a PhD in Astrochemistry. She is a teacher and writer contributing columns to The Guardian's Starwatch feature. She is particularly passionate about quantum physics and astrobiology and is currently Programme Leader for Science and Engineering at Kaplan International College as well as a regular tutor at City Lit.
