On course LFW40 , we will be watching Le dîner de cons ( Francis Veber/ 1998) , a French comedy about a group of well-to-do snobbish and obnoxious professionals who have dinner parties every Wednesday to which each of them is required to bring an 'idiot' as a guest. Watch the trailer here.

2019 was marked by the death of a true mistress of world cinema, Agnès Varda. This one-day course will introduce you to her oeuvre, from her first feature film, La pointe courte (1955) to her final work, Varda par Agnès (2019), exploring her life, her career and her status as a ‘feminist’ icon. We will also consider how the digital was central to her ‘rediscovery’ in the 2000s and how it was key to her later career.

The Brazilian Portuguese Film evening is a chance to find out more about Brazilian cinema at the college. The film will be presented by one of our wonderful Brazilian Portuguese tutors and there will be a discussion afterwards.
The film we will be watching is Central Do Brasil , a 1998 award-winning road drama directed by Walter Salles. A Classic of Brazilian cinema, this film tells the story of an unlikely friendship between an orphaned little boy and a solitary woman. A change to delve into the topics of motherhood and female representation in Brazilian films ahead of International Women's day.
