With these practices you can alleviate pain and discomfort, increase your mobility and generate a feeling of wellbeing. Please note this course will be taught with voice and also in sign language simultaneously, so it is suitable for hearing and deaf students.

What is the course about?

However we move through our lives our backs take the toll. Poor posture, repetitive and habitual movements create stresses and strains which over time will cause stiffness, restrictions and consequent back pain and ailments. Postures become further compromised and deteriorate and as the body gets tired, ill or upset, the back takes the strain, adding pain to the stress.
On this course you will learn postures and movements to create space in the spine and back, to relieve pain and increase mobility, all of which will help improve posture. You will also learn to relax the mind and body.

Basic anatomy and physiology of the back
Different back conditions and self-help
Yoga exercises
Relaxation.

What will I achieve?

Improve strength & flexibility of your back

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable for complete beginners to Yoga and students with experience who want to work specifically on their back.

For 20 years Sarah has been teaching people who do not usually have access to yoga. She is the leader in the field of yoga for deaf people. She also works with people recovering from, or living with, specific physical and emotional health issues (including those living with dementia) through delivery of Chair Yoga classes across Westminster and K & C, and at Triyoga. Sarah qualified as an Inner Yoga Trust and British Wheel of Yoga registered teacher / practitioner. She danced from the age of four, and was first moved by Yoga when she was 16, though it has not always been easy for her to access as she is partially deaf. She has taught Deaf Yoga classes for staff members at DCAL (Deafness Cognition & Language Research Centre), Deaf Plus, Sign Health, DeafWorks, Oak Lodge School, Remark!, Special Yoga Centre, Sense and the Deaf Multilingual Community Service. Sarah’s yoga is an expression of and has evolved from her understanding of the teachings and a mix of Scaravelli informed, Iyengar and Satyanada Yoga.
