With the current situation leaving most of us at home, now is the ideal time to learn a new skill. Whether it is learning a language that you’ve always wanted to learn or exploring relaxation techniques to aid your wellbeing, keeping your brain and body active during this time is essential.

City Lit is offering a number of brand new courses starting from February.

Many of our courses are delivered online. The learning experience is very similar to being in a classroom, meaning that you can learn from our friendly and passionate tutors who want to help you to achieve your goals.

  1. Creative arts for bookbinding III: papercutting

    Learn how to manipulate paper into abstract or representational designs. A range of paper cutting and folding techniques encourage you to explore silhouettes, pattern, imagery, colour and scale to develop your own approach.   2. A Psychoanalytical approach to Film: an introduction

  3. The Poetry of W.B. Yeats

    Over 150 years since the birth of William Butler Yeats, his poetry continues to have an enduring place in the landscape of world literature, inspiring writers, musicians and artists alike. This course explores four of his finest poems written at different stages in his life. We will examine how he sought inspiration from Irish mythology, politics, nature, his personal relationships and art to develop ideas about beauty and creativity.

  4. David Lynch on the lost highway to Hollywood

    In 1977 the film world changed with Eraserhead, the feature debut of David Lynch. His films are fascinating in their ability to create imaginary worlds that bear a superficial resemblance to reality, leading viewers through a labyrinth of twisted tales and unlikely small American towns. These landscapes are painted with shiny colours along a lost highway, illuminated by headlights racing into an endless night, where David Lynch movies echo earlier Hollywood classics.

  5. A Psychoanalytic investigation of the Joker

    Exploring iconic representations of The Joker in film and TV, showcasing the pathology of a Supervillain who weaponises comedy, inspires delinquency, and claims unreliable accounts of a traumatic personal history.   6. ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy

    Train to practise aromatherapy professionally. The Level 3 ITEC Diploma qualifies you to work independently in your own practice or gain employment within a salon, clinic, health club or spa setting. We are delighted to offer, as a free add on the ITEC Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention (COVID-19) for Complementary Therapies and Sports Massage.



    Many of our graduate therapists also find work in the NHS, hospice or other healthcare setting. This is an ideal course for those wishing to work in the Health and Beauty industry.



    COVID 19 - The Theory and Practical elements will be taught in class. However, if Government guidelines change due to COVID 19, some of the theoretical modules may be taught Online. At present, all units will be taught in class at City Lit.



    The college will provide all necessary PPE required. Please complete an online application form, and read the full course outline before applying.

    The course fee is £1559, plus an upfront fee of £50 payable at the time of your enrolment. If you are unable to pay the course fees, you can choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to help cover the course fee, repayable after the course ends. A deposit of £0 is also payable to secure your place (refundable after you complete the course).   9. The Wind in Film

    We will go on a journey exploring a variety of cinematic expressions of wind in film: From silent cinema, disaster films, to nature documentaries, surrealist and art house films: Including Joris Ivens, Jean Epstein, Victor Sjostrom, and Bela Tarr.     There’s so much more to Mime than the striped jumper, beret and box!

    The course will cover basic techniques in Mime towards developing and creating worlds alongside opening your body up to expressionistic styles. Through technique and improvisational based classes we will play and explore some of the most renowned exercises in Mime and build on them. Engaging your imagination and developing your awareness of your body as a tool for theatre craft.
