This third year of our classical piano programme continues with repertoire of a grade 1 standard and is suitable for students working towards ABRSM Grade 2. Improve your technique, fluency of reading and playing, and exploring more complex rhythmic patterns.

Explore the art of counterpoint, a musical technique in which two or more melodies are combined to create a highly engaging musical texture. Through analysis and practical exercises, you'll learn to write effective counterpoint in the tonal style, focusing on the Baroque period. Leads to part 3 next term. NB: there is no scheduled break week during this course (Jan-Mar 2027)

We investigate the tremendous range of musical figures working in Vienna at the turn of the century, from Brahms and Schoenberg to Gustav and Alma Mahler, Richard Strauss and Johanna Müller-Hermann. This is the second year of our beginners' classical piano programme and repertoire will be of a pre-grade 1 standard. Improve your eye/hand coordination, music reading and technique.

Extend and develop your skills for a range of podcasts and radio broadcasts, presenting and putting a live news, current affairs, features and music programme to air, creating the content yourselves. The course is the second of three that allows students to progress from complete beginner to an advanced level with the aim of being able to present and pitch programme ideas professionally. You'll need to have taken the beginners’ course or have previous industry experience. This course will be online and supported by a media technician.

This last term in our level 2 classical piano programme and is suitable for students working towards ABRSM Grade 2. If you have completed Piano/keyboards 2B or have existing keyboard and music reading skills, this course will further develop your technique and musicianship.

Explore the art of counterpoint, a musical technique in which two or more melodies are combined to create a highly engaging musical texture. This term will focus on imitative forms including invention, canon and fugue, as well as analysing examples of counterpoint in repertoire from the Baroque period to Twentieth Century. Break week: 01 Jun 2027

Emmanuel Chabrier is a composer from whom we hear only very rarely in concert, though his admirers included Gustav Mahler, Manuel de Falla, Maurice Ravel and Francis Poulenc. Come and learn about his most popular composition, the ever-sunny España of 1883.

This is the final term of our beginners' classical piano programme and is suitable for students working towards ABRSM Grade 1. For pianists who can play pieces, scales and chords in simple keys, play legato and staccato and read music with a relative degree of fluency.
