This Spanish Film Matinee is a chance to find out more about Spanish speaking cinema at the college. The film will be presented by one of our wonderful Spanish tutors and there will be a discussion afterwards.

The film we will be watching is Chico y Rita (Tono Errando, Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal,2010). Set in 1948, this animated tragicomic love story between the beautiful Cuban singer Rita and the underemployed Jazz pianist Chico, will be a great setting for a discussion about love, music, dreams and hardship.

This in-college literature course explores the extraordinarily diverse world of writing about motherhood. We’ll look at literary texts that have firmly rebuked any notions of motherhood as ‘merely’ domestic, and have instead made it the subject of serious literary writing, have explored major themes such as the body, trauma, gender, queerness, race and creativity, and have written diverse truths about the realities of motherhood. You’ll leave this course with an understanding of classic texts about motherhood by authors such as Adrienne Rich as well as more recent texts by authors such as Rachel Cusk, Maggie Nelson and Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀.   

After the release of Spielberg’s Jaws, Hollywood was transformed once again. In the age of the blockbuster, stars again found a new type of fame and arguably became one of the key points of interest for the movie-going audience. However, as blockbusters grew, so did independent American cinema. The indie stars represented a very different version of stardom, and in particular, drew attention to the appreciation of an actor’s performance.

On this course you will learn how to scan your sketches and drawings into a computer and using Adobe Photoshop explore the possibilities of manipulating them. You will also explore the possibilities of using Adobe Illustrator to create vector illustrations by drawing directly into a computer.
